Where I Lived, and What I Lived for
In the ââ¬Å"Where I Lived, and What I Lived forâ⬠chapter of Walden, Thoreau emphasized that people need to make life simple and slow because it eventually helps you know your real goal and realize the true meaning of life. He begins with his own story ââ¬âhe imagines that he works at farms as a farmer and he cares for seeds in succession. He thinks his farms will bring happiness because all sessions for cultivation are naturally accomplished. However, his imagination ends up with his real financial situation.He wants to buy farms not minding his profit margin but enjoying his time with seeds. However, the owner turns down his proposal because his reason was hardly accepted in modern times where people give importance to wealth. After this experience living in a house in the woods, he feels a natural spirit and he glorifies the beauty of nature. He developed his feeling for nature after he realizes that people should be awakened ââ¬âââ¬Å"[They] must learn to reawaken and keep [them] selves awake, not by mechanical aids, but by an infinite expectation of the dawnâ⬠.He also came to know why people are so busy and why they work as hard as ââ¬Å"antsâ⬠It is because people seem to set count on economical value but people do not know what they really want. According to his examples, there is a railroad which can effectively reduce time between places. At the same time, we could lose our landscape to see. So, he describes a railroad that ââ¬Å"We do not ride on the railroad; it rides upon usâ⬠. Therefore, he criticizes that ââ¬Å"fastâ⬠seems to be effective but it brings wrong judgment and lose our opportunity.He mentions that our society is pressured to ââ¬Å"hurryâ⬠for our life to be successful. However, he thinks that our society now is complicated and dangerous because we do not have ideas of ââ¬Å"slowâ⬠and ââ¬Å"simpleâ⬠to reflect ourselves. All in all, he states that we need time to be ââ¬Å"slowâ ⬠and ââ¬Å"simpleâ⬠for our clever intelligent life. This is his obvious viewpoints ââ¬â ââ¬Å"Let us spend one day as deliberately as Nature, and not be thrown off the trackâ⬠.

Debut Speech Essay
During my 18 years, Iââ¬â¢ve learned how important family is. Your family will always be there for you no matter what. My family supports me in everything I do. All their time and money cannot express how much they love me because love is more than any of that. Love between families is a special bond of time, laughs, smiles and memories. Love is something that family doesnââ¬â¢t have to say to each other because we already know and I am blessed to have a family that loves me in every way possible. As for friends, Iââ¬â¢ve learned something important about friends. You will meet many people throughout your days and for a moment in time you will be that personââ¬â¢s friend or more. Friends are the ones that stay by your sides during the bad and will never intentionally stab you in the back. To all my friends here tonight, thank you for everything; I hope weââ¬â¢ll continue our friendship for many more years to come. Ahead is a new journey, not only for me but for all of us. And what I have to say to that, ââ¬Å"Challenge accepted. I can only imagine the way my parents are going to feel watching me grow up more and more and having to let go little by little each day but even then my imagination cannot comparable to the feelings they feel. Even then, I willingly accept this new chapter of my life which I wouldnââ¬â¢t have been able to reach without every single one of you. As maturity levels differ for different readers, the novel is not permitted in certain schools. Considering the great value in this novel, there is some controversy as to whether the book should be banned from school curricula. The age of the students studying this book plays an important role in whether reading Kesey s novel is appropriate for middle school students. Unlike a functional organizational structure, the process bases organizational structure focus on different activities performed by personnel in interacting with each other and not just the employee activities being performed. According to Foss (2013), process based organizational structure is very much suitable for improvement of efficiency and speed within a rapidly evolving business environment. Process based organizational structure is very much easy to adapt and hence is recommended to The Sydney Community Hospital (SCH) following functional organizational structure so that overall changing of the structure is not very complicated to shift disturbing existing performance of hospital or hampering ongoing duties of personnel. The three subordinates exiting are the director of nursing services, director of medical services and director of corporate services. The director of nursing services manages nurse manager and nurse manager manages the nursing staffs. Director of medical services manages subsequently senior medical staff and senior medical staffs manage the junior medical staffs. Similarly, middle managers who are managed by director of corporate services manage administrative staffs. Current functional organizational structure has a major problem of communication within inter services (Wallace, 2015). Hence, if a nursing staff requires a helps regarding issues for patient appointment, nurse manager needs to be informed following an intimidation to director of nursing services (Sorensen, 2013). Finally, when the notice reaches CEO, it will be forwarded to director of corporate services which will then be forwarded to middle managers and finally to administrative staffs. Due to lack of inter service link, proper coordination of services also lacks. If communication barrier arises among different services, handing of work will be delayed and create an issue. If the process based structure is followed accordingly, efficiency and speed of the processes is rapidly changed. A process based organizational objectives ensures improved performance of organization in achievement of mission, vision and value to the core. Advantages and Limitations of Process Based Organizational Structure: Van Dijk-de Vries (2017) commented that following a process-based organizational structure provides an opportunity to SCH in defining a clear guideline of improvement in processes and performance over time. Full set of activities such as customer satisfaction, quality of treatment, quality of medications will be focused as well as financial results that include SCH profits, budgets, cost and revenues. According to Van Riet Paap (2014), wrong decisions will be avoided reducing time, cost and resources of the hospital. Any potential hazard will be anticipated such as possible wrong treatment or improper medication will be identified easily due to availability of process. For example if the administrative staff receives a complaint from a patient regarding improper medication or allergic reaction to certain kind of medicine, it will be soon transferred to medical staffs, doctors and specialists and a solution will be provided to the patient immediately. It can be concluded that adopting a process based organization management will help in protecting intellectual capacity of SCH. Monitoring development of various nursing processes through analysis of risks and weaknesses will be efficiently done. Continuous improvement within SCH will also be fostered fulfilling patient requirement and satisfaction. Patient services will also be improved along with process evaluation of results that is anticipated to be obtained by SCH. A process based organizational structure incorporates integration of output as well as input to the healthcare unit controlling doctors, technical personnel, nurses, service providers and other financial resources to a holistic point of view. Moreover, SCH will also become competent in improving its information technology and incorporate advanced IT framework within its healthcare facility. However, it should be kept in mind to mitigate any barrier of communication between services so that services and proper medicati on to patients are not delayed. 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' Book Review Oscar Wildesà only novel The Picture of Dorian Gray (1891) is a classic instance of the aestheticism of the late 19th centurysà ââ¬â¹Ã¢â¬â¹English literature. The maxim of aestheticism art for arts sake is reflected in the opening of the novel, which specifies arts aim to reveal the art and conceal the artist. For greater emphasis, Wilde defines the artist as free of ethical sympathies and morbidity. Even books are seen as only well written or badly written and not as moral or amoral. Following this prelude on art and beauty, Wilde weaves aà ââ¬â¹plot that explores the issue to its core. The plot of The Picture of Dorian Gray, if seen apart from the wit and epigrams of Lord Henry is serious and, at times, even somber. Dorian Gray is a young and handsome man whose well-off friend Lord Henry takes him to an art-loving painter, Basil Hallward. The painter makes a picture of Dorian Gray, a fascinating piece that makes Dorian wish to stop aging. His wish is fulfilled and the picture starts aging instead of young Dorian. The consequence is a disaster. Oscar Wilde has created an amusing tale that does not end very happily but ends beautifully with our easy-going Lord Henry still chirping. Style and Setting Anyone who has read dramatic fiction (Oscar Wilde in particular) will not find it hard to see the style of the storys narrative as closer to drama than a novel. Wilde is not obsessed with describing settings in detail as a novelist with a constructive bent would be. But the brevity of description is masterfully covered in the warm and witty conversations that fill most of the novel. The epigrams of Lord Henry shoot arrows of gentle satire on different elements of society. Women, America, faithfulness, stupidity, marriage, romance, humanity, and weather are just some of the numerous targets of Wildes criticism, which the readers receive from the sharp but sweet tongue of Lord Henry. The twittering lord is thus made an indelibleà character for his ease of expression and his envied indifference. Yet, the author does not rely solely on spoken words to impart his impression. He describes some scenes in words that evoke a vivid image in the readers mind. Perhaps the best of these is Dorian Grays brief journey through the dark and filthy streets that stand in an obtrusive contrast to his luxurious entourage but which also bear a remarkable resemblance to the kind of life he has embraced. Characters in The Picture of Dorian Gray Like his stories and plays, Oscar Wilde does not employ many characters to run the story of his novel. Nearly the entire plot is nucleated around Dorian, Lord Henry, and the artist Basil. Minor characters like the Duchess of Harley serve the purpose of initiating or furthering topics that would ultimately be the butt of Lord Henrys repartees. The character description and motivation are again left mainly to the perceptual capacity of the readers. Wilde is always testing the aesthetics of his readers and the easier you go with his characters disposition, the greater insight you gain. Self-Love and the Vulnerability of Beauty The Picture of Dorian Gray addresses more than one theme. The primary appeal of the subject of beauty, as it appears to eyes, is the main focus of the novel. Wilde reveals the tenderness of self-love, or narcissism, which sometimes fails to find an object outside itself. Dorians beauty, unlike Basils art and Lord Henrys social status, is more vulnerable to decay with time. But it is not this weakness of beauty to age that brings the disaster upon our protagonist. It is the consciousness of the owner of beauty to his own wealth that triggers the boundless fear of perishingfear that causes his doom. Unlike Lord Henrys ease about his rank, Dorians angst about the ephemeral nature of his beauty is shown as the true enemy of a persons self. The philosophical boundaries of Oscar Wildes The Picture of Dorian Gray are too deep to track to their ends. The novel addresses the issue of self-concept as portrayed in art. Further, it connects a persons emotional response to his/her own image. While Dorian remains young and beautiful, the mere sight of an aging picture of him is unbearably painful. It would be too presumptuous to conclude that The Picture of Dorian Gray is a work of beauty with no moralistic purpose. Wilde was not a moralist (as many of us already know) and within the book, there is not much to emphasize a moral code or right conduct. But the novel, in its covert meaning, is not without a moral lesson. We can easily see that beauty is ephemeral and any attempt to deny this fact is amoral. It brings ruin as shows the case of Dorian Gray.
